This coinage has been a topic of a long discussion among scholars. One more specimen of this type was exhibited in Abu Dhabi in 2020 (cf. Coins of Islam. History Revealed, texts by Aram Vardanyan, Abu Dhabi, 2020, p. 78). Indeed, there is no mint on this coinage. The reverse inner marginal inscription says "bism Allah duriba hadha al-dirham fi 'asr al-Mahdi santa tis'in wa ma'tayn". Roughly, this means "... this dirham was struck in the time/era of al-Mahdi...".
